Doing ‘Real Work’
[the publish date is retroactively published]
I knew my trusty Commodore 64 was a ‘real computer’ (as in I could buy disk drives and printers) and always wanted to do ‘real work’ on it. So, I looked at buying a mouse for my C64. As the original ones are a tad pricey (in the UK, they cost more than a cartridge game back in the day), I went for a 1351 (that’s the mouse name) adapter.

I bought a roller ball mouse for it to work perfectly for games and GEOS, which looks like this, yes that is a C64 mouse pad!

As the adapter came with no cover, I 3d printed a cover for it, so it now looks like this:

I have used GEOS, it was very surreal, as this was one of the first GUIs (Graphical User Interface) created, so it was eerily familiar, yet so archaic.

I have tried using GEOFile, but due to trying to find a database program, I ended up buying Mini Office II.

However since my copy had a disk that wouldn’t play ball, I ended up downloading a cracked copy from the internet. I now have a period-correct database of all my games, alongside the one I have on here. Will I get a printer for my Commodore 64? Who knows!
